Below are the answers to questions we are frequently asked about applying for a grant. If your question is not answered, or you have read the information on our website and would like to discuss making an application, please contact us at info@greatrugby.scot.

 

Who and what do you fund?

We fund rugby clubs, sports clubs, schools and charities who are involved or wish to be involved in increasing participation in rugby in Scotland. Our specific focus is grass-roots rugby, supporting people of all ages, ethnicities, genders, privilege and abilities through a programme of grants and other financial assistance.

Our aim is to provide financial support for activities that encourage and develop the playing of rugby. These activities include but are not limited to the provision of coaching and other educational assistance, kit, equipment, transport and playing facilities.

How can I make a donation to you?

You can make a donation through our website using payment cards or by sending a cheque to our registered office.

Is there a minimum donation that I have to make?

There is no minimum donation level I would like to make a regular donation to you. You can set up a direct debit or regular payment arrangement through our website. The frequency of donations is a matter for you and can be weekly, monthly, yearly or whatever frequency you prefer.

Once I have made a donation to you, I don’t want to receive any further requests for donations. How do I prevent this?

On our donation form, you can opt out of receiving any further communication from us.

I would like to leave a legacy to you. How do I do this?

Will you let me know how my donation has been spent?

We will send an annual report to all of our donors reporting on our activities during the relevant year. If you have donated over £5000, we will send you a report within 3 months of your donation being expended.

I would like my donation to be used for specific purposes, is this possible?

We would ask you to contact us to discuss the specific purpose prior to making a donation. This will enable us to confirm whether or not the specific purpose is something that we can deliver.

Can I ensure my donation is spent within a specific geographic area?

We would ask you to contact us to discuss the specific geographic area prior to making a donation. This will enable us to confirm whether or not we are able to award grants in that geography.

I want my donation to be used for infrastructure and capital projects.

Our initial grants will be small awards and will be revenue grants. We will keep under review whether or not we wish to make infrastructure and capital project awards.

Will you claim Gift Aid on my donation?

If you are an eligible taxpayer in the UK, we will be able to obtain gift aid on your donation, provided you have signed the gift aid declaration and completed our application form.

Why do I have to provide all of the information set out in your donation form?

We need to obtain all of this information to comply with charity and other laws, to enable us to claim gift aid from HMRC and to comply with the Fundraising Best Practice Code.

How will you recognise my donation?

Provided you have given us permission to do so, we will acknowledge you as a donor on our website and in our annual report.

What if I want my donation to be anonymous?

We will need to obtain details about your identity to comply with legislative requirements but will not publicise your donation if you have requested that.

How are you going to raise funds?

We are going to raise funds from individuals, companies and other bodies. We will do this through a variety of methods including fundraising campaigns and direct mail. We will also partner with other organisations to hold fundraising events.

How do you ensure that your fundraising activities are properly conducted?

We are registered with the Scottish Fundraising Adjudication Panel. We have adopted the Code of Fundraising Practice and their Good Fundraising Guarantee.

Our Good Fundraising Guarantee to you

Fundraising is the life blood of many Scottish charities, and we need to raise funds from voluntary sources. We could not fulfil our charitable mission without the support of generous, thoughtful and committed donors.We value the support of donors and understand the need to balance our duties to beneficiaries, with our duties to donors.

That’s why we make this commitment to you.

We will comply with the law as it applies to charities and fundraising and we commit that we will guarantee to adhere to best practice as outlined in the Fundraising Code of Practice.

We will monitor fundraisers, volunteers and third parties working with us to raise funds, ensuring that they also comply with this Code of Practice.

We guarantee to operate in line with the values of the Code; to be Legal, Open, Honest and Respectful in all our fundraising. To promote and underpin these values, we commit to the following standards:

  • We will be clear about who we are and what we do
  • We will give a clear explanation of how you can make a gift and change or stop a regular donation
  • If you do not want to give or wish to cease giving, we will respect your decision
  • We will respect your rights and privacy
  • We have a procedure for dealing with people in vulnerable circumstances and it will be published on our website or will otherwise be available on request
  • We will hold your data securely
  • We will communicate with you in accordance with your selected preferences.

We commit to ensuring our complaints process is clear and easily accessible and we will provide clear and evidence-based reasons for our decisions on complaints.

Do you employ a professional fundraiser agency?

We do not.

Do you have any fundraising staff?

We do not employ any staff. We are a voluntary organisation.

Do you fund the SRU?

We do not fund the SRU.

Does the SRU make donations to you?

The SRU does not make any financial donation to us. It may from time to time provide in kind support such as advertising. GREAT is an independent Scottish charity which operates at arm’s length from SRU.
